About The Sir Barton Project

JKelly08My name is Jennifer Kelly. Thank you for visiting The Sir Barton Project! In 1919, Sir Barton won America’s first Triple Crown, dominating the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes (plus the Withers Stakes) in 32 days. My book, Sir Barton and the Making of the Triple Crown, covers this historic achievement as well as the life and career of this pioneering horse. Published by the University Press of Kentucky, this book will be available online and at your favorite bookseller in May 2019.

This blog is meant to cover topics related to Sir Barton and his era. I share stories that both connect our current racing scene to the career of Sir Barton and celebrate a milestone from racing during the first part of the twentieth century.
